Midlands HR industry gathers to discuss mental health in the workplace
Last week, we invited HR professionals and business leaders from across the West Midlands to discuss mental health in the workplace to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
We partnered with international law firm, Trowers & Hamlins, to deliver the seminar which aimed to promote better understanding and support for employees with mental health issues.
Mental health experts Dr Ben Sinclair, from Optimise Health Clinic, and Fiona Sanderson, from Work Wellness, offered advice and guidance on best practice in the workplace, and Partners Amardeep Gill and Rebecca McGuirk, from Trowers & Hamlins, provided an insight into legal implications for employers.
Our director, Kam Vara, comments: “Over the last two years, there has been a major shift in the perceptions around mental health and generally it seems people are becoming more open and willing to discuss their issues. This is clearly a step in the right direction but we feel more needs to be done to give business owners and HR professionals the tools they need to be able to support employees who might be suffering.
“If we can have a better understanding of mental health and the right practices to implement, we will ultimately have a better, healthier and more productive workforce.”
